Henry Hallet diary, 1850-1853, 1862.

Describes account of New Englander's travels from Boston to California from 1850 to 1853 on board the steamer Empire City from New York to Chagres, Panama, his accounts of Panama including his crossing of the Panama isthmus by canoe and mule to board the Northerner for San Francisco where he headed to Oregon Bar on the Mokelumne River to mine. The account is written as a journal and a memoir written years later in 1862 especially the portion on his experiences in the gold fields. Transcription prepared by James Guynn, great-grandson of Henry Hallet, in 2003.
